This is done by pulling the skin away from the subdermal tissues and removing some fat and muscle tissue. Some muscle tissue is also tightened so that the skin will lay flatter once it’s draped back into place.
This diminishes the appearance of sags and permanent, set wrinkles. It also alters the contours of the skin surface so that sharp corners and indentations are less visible. So long as the skin still has adequate elasticity and can be pulled or stretch slightly without harm, a facelift can produce remarkable results.
Procedure Steps
During a consultation, we will review your medical history. Good candidates for a rhytidectomy will be in good overall health and will not have any diagnosed severe skin conditions.
To perform a traditional facelift, we make an opening that starts near the base of the ear and extends up to the peripheral hairline. We pull the skin up from the subcutaneous tissues and pin it away so that we can work on the fat deposits and muscle. After we remove some fat and pin the muscle tissue in the place that we want it, we pull the skin upward. The opening, when sealed, will not show visible scarring because it was made along a natural crease.
Results are usually quite dramatic. Your skin has been raised on the cheeks, and sagging skin along the jaw is now gone. Deeper wrinkles and folds are far less apparent, and the skin surface is more taut. In short, years have been taken off your appearance.
