Recovery Immediately Following Breast Augmentation
It is extremely important to take care of yourself after breast augmentation. During your initial consultation, we will provide you with a complete list of instructions on how to take care of yourself so that there are no surprises. Here is a general overview of what to expect shortly after your procedure:
Get Plenty of Rest
Breast augmentation is performed under general anesthesia on an outpatient basis. This means you won’t need to stay in a hospital overnight. You can go home shortly after your procedure, but you’ll need to get someone to drive you because of the anesthesia. When you get home, make sure you drink plenty of water and rest as much as you can.
If possible, have someone stay with you for at least the first night so they can feed you and help you remain comfortable. You should also avoid doing any heavy lifting too soon after your breast augmentation procedure. This includes picking up your children.
Wearing a Bra
You may be advised to wear a soft, supportive post-op bra, sports bra or wide, elastic bandage around your breasts during your recovery. This will support your breasts while ensuring they maintain their proper position. We may recommend that you not wear a bra at all. However, if we advise you to wear a bra or compression bandage, you should only take it off to bathe.
What to Expect in the Following Weeks
The recovery process will vary from individual to individual. However, most clients are back to normal after a set amount of time of taking it easy. You can return to strenuous activities after it is advised by our team. This includes exercises that increase the heart rate or blood pressure or require extensive use of the chest and arms.
